Ferrari 512S
(1973)

The second Ferrari to be immortalized in 1:64 scale by Mattel during the redline era was the 512 S Speciale, a show car first unveiled at the Turin Salon in late 1969.

Mattel's Ferrari 512S was first issued in 1972 in seven spectraflame colors.  Re-released in 1973 as one of the Shell promotional cars, the paint colors were changed to seven different enamel hues.  Young collectors originally could pick up a brightly colored 512S when their moms or dads filled up with 8 gallons or more!  The cars were packaged in a plastic baggie with a small header card.

The 1973 version of the Ferrari 512S is identical to the '72 release with the exception that all wheels were the new non-removable open hub type, and the '73 issue lacked the flat black rear louver paint.
